To celebrate the beginning of an exciting new Summer Adventures program, your center will host a Gold Medal Adventures Kick-Off event at the end of the Great Break Escape. During the event, your child can share the fun things he or she has been doing throughout the week’s activities.

Prior to the kick-off, children will be re-introduced to Helio and Nica, friends from outer space who visit each summer for various missions. This year Helio and Nica's mission is to learn about the Olympic Games on Earth so they can host their own Intergalactic Games on Planet Neptron. Children will share their own designs and models of sport structures they create for the upcoming Intergalactic Games. To introduce themselves to Planet Neptron’s Intergalactic Games Planning Committee, children will prepare trading cards with biographical information to display at the event. You can expect to see a variety of mascots at the event, too; children created mascots to represent their Gold Medal Adventures classroom throughout the summer.

Meet Your Guides
Helio and Nica are a brother and sister team from the Planet Neptron. The Intergalactic Games Council on their planet has asked them be ambassadors and spend their summer learning about games, teamwork, and wellness concepts on Earth. Excited by the challenge, they are looking to the Summer Adventures team to help them fulfill their mission. Helio will be teaming-up with school-age children during his exploration. Helio loves to read—particularly comic books—and he thinks riding his galactic skateboard is pretty cool. He enjoyed learning about Earth's biomes last summer and can’t wait to join Gold Medal Adventures this year! Nica, a spunky preschooler, loves games—especially Brain- and Team-Builders. Nica has plenty of favorite games on Neptron, but can’t wait to learn more about Earth’s games. She is also excited to make friends with the preschool kids enrolled in Summer Adventures.
Divided into six, two-week units, Gold Medal Adventures is designed to provide a day-camp experience in an environment you know and trust. Over the course of the summer children will develop skills, celebrate accomplishments and spend time with friends. The units include:
Relay Fun
Kick off the summer learning about the tradition of relays. Children will celebrate the adventures by having their own center-wide relay.
Welcoming Ceremonies
The Welcoming Ceremonies are a time for friendship, teamwork, creativity, and performance. Children will explore the excitement of the Ceremonies by hosting their own celebration.
Fueling the Fire
It takes healthy minds and bodies to become a champion. Wellness, nutrition, and lifelong health light the way. Children will focus on the importance of “practice” to achieve one’s goals.
Off to the Races!
Let the games begin! Brain games, relays, and races just to name a few. Children will practice their individual and team skills. They’ll even celebrate by hosting their own multi-game event!
Crossing the Finish Line
Imaginations run wild as children create new games and events. Looking to the future, children will demonstrate their creativity and present their new ideas at the Future of Sports Fair.
Farewell Ceremonies
After a summer of working towards goals, it’s time to celebrate achievements. Recognition and reflection are highlighted as children think about the goals they set and achieved, and memories of Gold Medal Adventures.
